      WHAT TO WEAR

      • Most riders wear long-sleeve tee shirts or bike jerseys in downhill parks. Long sleeves help protect against brush, cuts, and scrapes should a fall occur.
      • Weather can change quickly in the mountains. A lightweight, waterproof shell protects against wind and cooler temperatures at elevation.
      • Wear elastic bike shorts or pants since you will shift weight, corner, and pedal. If you wear pants, wear tighter fits with elastic ankles to avoid catching your pant legs in the bike chain.
      • You must wear closed-toed shoes. Wear bike-specific shoes or something with good sole grip. Skateboard shoes or shoes with athletic grips work well. Wear shoes that you don't mind getting dirty.
      • Stratton Bike Park requires all riders to wear helmets. We recommend a full-face helmet for first-time riders, and usually preferred by downhill bikers.
      • Wear goggles, sunglasses, or eye protection.
      • We recommend gloves, knee pads, and elbow pads.

      WHAT TO PACK

      • Water bottle or hydration bladder.
      • Easy to eat snacks.
      • Energy gels or gummies.
      • Bike multitool.
      • Phone or trail map.
      • Backpack, hip pack, or saddle packs are optional but they are the best way to carry the above items.
OPTIONAL MOUNTAIN BIKE RENTAL DAMAGE FEE

Add optional mountain bike rental damage coverage for accidental damage to your rental while using the bike on-site in Stratton Bike Park. The mountain bike rental damage coverage does not cover loss or theft of the bike and damage due to bike adjustments made by the renter without resort consent or intentional abuse or intentional damage. You can add mountain bike rental damage coverage in-store at the time of rental bike pick-up. If you do not sign the Mountain Bike Rental Damage Fee agreement or choose to opt out, you will be liable for all bike damage(s) caused during the rental term.

      • Rental Bikes: $33

      SAFETY

Mountain biking has inherent risks including serious injury or death. Risks increase with the trail's difficulty and the speed of the rider. Begin each day on easier terrain, control your speed, and choose trails that are appropriate for your experience and skills. Be aware that trail conditions change daily.

All riders in the Stratton Bike Park must have a lift ticket or trail pass.

      MOUNTAIN BIKER’S RESPONSIBILITY CODE

Your knowledge, decisions and actions contribute to your safety and that of others.

      ALWAYS:
      • STAY IN CONTROL. You’re responsible for avoiding objects and people.
      • KNOW YOUR LIMITS. Ride within your ability. Start small and work your way up.
      • PROTECT YOURSELF. Use an appropriate bike, helmet, and protective equipment.
      • INSPECT AND MAINTAIN YOUR EQUIPMENT. Know your components and their operation before you ride.
      • BE LIFT SMART. Know how to load, ride, and unload lifts safely. Ask if you need help.
      • INSPECT THE TRAILS AND FEATURES. Conditions change fast. Plan and adjust accordingly.
      • OBEY SIGNS AND WARNINGS. Stay on marked trails only. Keep off closed trails and features. Ride in the direction indicated.
      • BE VISIBLE. Stop where you are visible. Do not obstruct a trail, feature, or landing.
      • LOOK AND YIELD TO OTHERS. Look both ways and yield when entering or crossing a road or trail. When overtaking, use caution and yield to those ahead.
      • COOPERATE. If involved in or witness to an incident, identify yourself to the staff.

Know and Follow the Code. It is Your Responsibility.

Mountain biking is a challenging experience. Risks include, but are not limited to:

      - Steep, uneven, and ever-changing riding surfaces that contain rocks, roots, trees, tall and slippery grass, bumps, ruts, water bars, stumps, and brush.
      - Changing weather conditions that can impair visibility.
      - Motorized vehicles operating on the mountain.
      - Collisions with man-made objects including terrain features, lift towers, snowmaking equipment, buildings, and other riders and pedestrians
      - Failure of bike components.

Mountain biking falls can result in serious injury or death. Riders should proceed cautiously and when in doubt, walk their bike. Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Do not expose loose clothing to moving parts of the bicycle. Use proper equipment and consider protective gear and clothing. Jumps and rough riding can lead to the bike's malfunction. Check your bike often. Be aware that minor injuries can become life-threatening emergencies in a mountain environment. Trails and routes are not regularly patrolled. Emergency response may be delayed depending on the injured’s location.
